Several roads have been closed in Johannesburg after an explosion rocked the city and left significant damage to the roads this afternoon.

"Following the explosion that happened this afternoon at Jhb CBD which caused the road to partially collapse, I'll be heading there this evening to assess the damage. Please take note of the following road closures, Bree and Simmons, Bree and Harrison, Loveday Street, "Mayor of the City Kabelo Gwanda said in a tweet.

It is not yet known if there are any fatalities
